Autumn 2 2024
Well done Sutton class for a wonderful Autumn term. Here are some of our highlights.
In English, we've been diving into the incredible story of Tenzing Norgay, the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest. We've explored his life and achievements in detail, and then we focused on learning about biographies. Inspired by his journey, we decided to create our own biographies all about Tenzing, celebrating his remarkable accomplishments!
In Maths, we've been mastering multiplication and division. We've explored different ways of making and finding equal groups, as well as sharing. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving, we are strengthening our understanding of how numbers work together.
In Geography, we've been learning all about mountains! We've studied the physical features of a mountain, discovered where the Seven Summits are located, and explored the fascinating world of tectonic plates. Understanding how mountains form and what makes them so unique has been an exciting adventure!
In Art, we've been experimenting with collage techniques. We’ve looked at the work of various collage artists and learned how they use different materials and techniques to create their pieces. Then, we put our skills into practice by designing and creating our own mountain-themed collages, inspired by all that we've learned in our geography lessons.
Autumn 1 2024
What a wonderful start to the new year! Year 3/4 have been working so hard and they've learnt so much already!
In English, we have been reading the story of The Iron Man where we used this inspiration to create our own approaching threat narratives. In our stories, we included fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases to vary our sentences and make it more interesting for the reader. We have also created our own Autumn poetry which we shared with our parents in our class assembly and we are currently writing an explanation text to share with others how we would attempt to catch The Iron Man.
In our History lessons we have been learning all about what life was like during different time periods such as the stone, bronze and iron age. we have learnt so much whilst creating our own stone age houses and designing our own cave paintings which were made out of charcoal.
In Maths, we started the year learning all about place value and then we moved onto addition and subtraction using column as a written method. All of our maths lessons start with Super 6 where year 3 have been focusing on adding 2 and 3 digit numbers.
